After 38 years of service, Southwest Airlines, the nation’s leading low-fare carrier is expanding eight daily non-stop flights to and from the new Northwest Florida Panama City International Airport beginning May of 2010. This will bring 2,000 seats to Northwest Florida everyday.
“This is a great day for our entire region,” said Buddy Runnels. “We are so humbled by Southwest Airlines’ vote of confidence in our region. The Northwest Florida business community, from Perdido Key/ Pensacola to Carrabelle, has a lot to be proud of today. We did this together, and our entire region will benefit. It’s a real game-changer for tourism and economic development in Northwest Florida.”
The planned service is made possible through a strategic alliance agreement developed between Southwest and The St. Joe company, one of Florida’s largest landowners and real estate developers. Specific details on the new service have not been released by Southwest, but it is clear that Northwest Florida is ecstatic about the news.
This move validates that Northwest Florida is top destination for tourism and the addition of Southwest Airlines as a low-fair carrier will enhance the economic development of our area. Click HERE to read the press release.
